Empty Cup

Saw the movie 2012 recently, an old saying or word of wisdom was depicted in a beautiful manner in the movie - "Like this cup, you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup".

Its not the first time I came across these words and yet practice of this principle is so hard to achieve. On any given day, the race of thoughts never seems to stop. One after the another, they run, they chase each other, each vying for my attention. At times, it seems the cup is not enough to hold them. New information comes, new thought crowd my head, and the cup runneth over.

Peace is hard to achieve, to strike that balance I need to be calm, cannot afford carrying one matter's tension into another. I don't know how many have you ever tried meditation but sometimes I have quite a hard time with it. Concentrating on one thing and throwing all thoughts out of my mind, has quite the contrary effect. It is said actually that incase you cannot throw those thoughts out, its better not to meditate, or else you might experience more stress than before. Some suggest learning the same from a master.

Mostly when I see people of my age, some know a lot, and some are yet to discover many things, but a major issue of our generation is the lack of time. We learn so much more today thanks to the internet, and advances in communication systems worldwide. We also have so many tools at our hand, but with everything else there is so much to do and so little time. Knowledge seems to go wasted cos I don't have time to apply. At times not the patience :)

The year is coming to an end, I don't know if I will succeed in applying wisdom and acting on it but here's hoping that I do.

  1. Wishing you the very best for achieving what you want.

Instant gratification is another bane in these times which stems up again from 'no time' that you mention here.
